On Making Resolutions?

I am not going to make any New Year’s resolutions, but do want to try to do the following on a regular basis for my body, mind, and spirit…

  • Attend yoga classes (I feel so much better when I do, and consequently I’m a lot nicer to be around.)
  • Write
  • Purge my closets and home of unnecessary items (I lean towards packrat…)
  • Be positive in my words and actions.
  • Freelance translate (for pay, I always end up working pro-bono and not sure why.)
  • Tell and show my family and friends I love them more
  • Keep track of my volunteer hours.  (I don’t even want to tell you how many hours I had racked up last year, and can’t because I didn’t really keep good records.)

*I made the above pic with Picnik.com.  I am so loving that site!

    On Not Buying It…

I really want my family to take the “Not Buying It” challenge for at least half of 2011,but haven’t worked out our specifics yet.  Thinking we’ll do an exception for shoes (I’m sorry, used shoes are not my thing, especially for kids) and we’ll see what else.  Might have to do exceptions for some home things as we’re still working on the rent house and who knows if I can find what I need at Habitat for Humanity Restore or Freecycle.   I’ll keep you posted after our meeting.
*On another note, does anyone have any idea why my right sidebar won’t show up?  I have done all I want to and nothing.  I think I’m going to wait and just redo it all when I do my revamp sometime soon.

    On Houses for Chicks

For Christmas my chickens got a new house!
    Cole and his pets

This was a long time coming.  We had hired a man to come build a coop from plans… he said it would be done by Thanksgiving.  (Two weeks after Thanksgiving he showed up and built the frame, roof, and brought the rest of the materials then never came back.)  Scott finished it in about two hours.  We still have to stain it and fix the roof (the man put the tin roof on going the wrong direction!)

Sorry for the bad pics but this shows the walkway to house

Side view so you can see the nesting box (opens to collect eggs)

    On Indiana Jones Cupcakes…

My youngest turns 6 tomorrow and guess what kind of cake he wanted???
Hint: What do whips, golden idols, treasure maps, and snakes have in common?

The kids helped me shape some cool stuff from fondant and tootsie rolls (you just heat up the tootsie rolls about 12 seconds and they get soft enough to mold!) We painted with petal dust and paint pens (food coloring.)

    Answer: Indiana Jones!
    The Crystal Skull!
Hope the party goes well tomorrow!

    On Super Surprises

I left for the airport on Thursday thinking I was going to the windy city to tag along on a work trip for my hubby.   I was honestly dreading the wind and COLD temperatures (even went and bought long undies.)   We arrived at the Dallas airport to make the connecting flight and I looked up and saw the gate said “San Diego” instead of “Chicago.”  ???? That’s when he whipped out a jersey that said “THE BIG 40!”… (WHAT?)

Me & My Cali Buds Tailgating

We got to tailgate with my best bud and her hubby and watch the Chargers win!

    Misty Del Mar Morning

I didn’t miss the snow a bit, and loved hearing the waves crash on the beach at night (with the windows open!) cappuccinos on the patio,  facials, massages…. Scott spoils me and might regret it now!

    Poinsettias In Bloom
Can’t believe he pulled one over on me.
    My Sweet Man
I think 40 is going to be fine.
