Henna in my ears…

I bit the bullet and dyed my hair last night. I was trying to NOT color it, but I am so grey now! My hair was orange on the ends where the old henna was coming out and turning red as it did- brown in the middle and white on the roots about four inches down! Ick. Plus- at the Girl Scout fall event on Saturday a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile thought I’d sprayed that colored white hairspray in my hair (THAT is how white headed I am!)

So, this time I didn’t try the cassia obovata like the last. It turns white hair blonde, and didn’t quite look right on me. I used a mixed henna product called Light Mountain Natural. This does look better, but it’s pretty dark. I’m hoping it lightens up in a day or two. It did cover ALL the grey and it’s really soft and healthy.
Maybe I won’t look like such a dork in Disneyworld. W
Well, maybe?

Moms, kids, and world peace (again)…

The Dalai Lama’s talk was wonderful. I’m so glad I went.
The main thing I took out of it was that we moms are the key to world peace!
He said children learn compassion from their mothers,
Compassion is what makes us all better people
Peace in your heart gives you the ability to think about things more and make better decisions.

M’s school had a field trip to Worldfest yesterday. It was MUCH bigger than it’s been, mainly due to my kids’ school. They had probably quadruple the normal amount of entries and don’t think they were totally prepared for that. The kids were so good though. I was impressed.

M’s group did a song from Ireland (which honestly I couldn’t get a word of but still they are so cute!)

Our neighbors’ son played with his Shamrock Strings group and were awesome!

I took my boys to the Rivermarket for a late lunch (due to LONG lines at the fest) where an artist secretly drew our portrait. The boys were so impressed and he taught them about perspective and shading while he finished up the picture. Now we have a lovely week of Fall break so maybe I can work on instilling that compassion and inner peace in my crazy kids.

Peace & Harmony

Being calm in your heart… Is that not one of the hardest things about being a parent?
I have been really trying to teach my children to be kind to one another (and everyone else, parents included.) Some days are better than others. I have a very short temper with those closest to me, and struggle to think before I speak.

On that note… I’m going to see the Dalai Lama tomorrow in Memphis!
The topic of his lecture is “Developing Peace & Harmony.”
I am really excited. I have always admired his work and wanted to hear him speak.

Fall…?

Okay, I’m attempting a new blog linky thing from Mama’s Losin’ It. Head over and try it yourself!

I chose prompt #3- “Your Fall Favorites”

I am a weirdo I guess. (You already knew that though.)

I really dislike the fall.

I am trying really hard to think of something great to say about it (trying not to say I hate cold weather, shorter days, sorting through kids clothes, less sunshine, more rain, raking, higher utility bills, long pants and sleeves…)

So here it goes:

My fall favorites:

Thinking up neat costumes for my kids,

Having folks over before Trick-or-Treating,

Making gingerbread skeleton cookies,

Making Halloween decorations with the kids,

My awesome husband’s birthday,

Thanksgiving break,

Beautiful sunsets (we can see Pinnacle mountain when the leaves are all down,)

The smell of pumpkin pie baking in the oven,

Thanksgiving food (especially pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cranberry relish, and olives,)

Annual trip to the pumpkin patch,

Pumpkin Patch ’03 (Where are all my pics?)

Did I say pumpkin pie?

Good Stuff

I just got a box from our friendly, neighborhood UPS man. (He really is the happiest man I’ve ever met!) It’s an awesome Citizen Pip lunchbox I won on Kellie’s Greenhab blog. I was only expecting the lunch box itself, and lo-and-behold it’s the entire kit (canteen, napkins, 5 containers, lunchbox with tag!)

My kids will be fighting over this. Maybe it’s all mine!

My middle guy started group guitar lessons yesterday. I wanted to get him in something while we were waiting for E to get out of dance, and went in to ask. We ended up coming back in an hour and starting lessons! He really enjoyed it. There were 5 boys and they got to play Guitar Hero, talk music, and jam!
