On (Almost) Quiet Moments

On the way home from taking sis to dance the boys told me they wanted to go practice soccer.
I couldn’t believe it pass it up so I pulled off at the soccer complex to let them run.

Life is getting so complicated lately.
We have to catch those fun moments whenever we can.
High School choices, dance almost every day, soccer 2-3 nights a week, school…
I feel my chauffeur role expanding.
Emily got accepted in two summer intensive programs at Joffrey in NYC and one in Atlanta.  She really wanted to go to NYC but it’s so expensive and she has time.  (Think we might take a trip with her dance studio to NYC anyway, so that will be more fun! )

On Ancient Greeks in the Living Room!

My kids have been hiding out in the living room for the past few days.  Emily had a lock-in at a prospective high school on Friday night (YIKES!) so the boys and I had a sleepover of our own.
Pizza, movies, sleeping bags…
The dog and I even had our own pallet on the floor.
Last night they wanted to recreate the experience but this time with sister included.
(I didn’t make it through the night I must admit and retired to the quiet of my room.  Of course it was my fault for letting them make cookies and have coke. )
All day long they are re-making their “forts” and jumping on my furniture.
This is what I overheard:
J- “I don’t know how much longer I can do this!”
M-“You have to.  You are being punished.”
J- “Ya, I know, but the sky sure is really heavy and my muscles hurt.”
Me- “Who are you supposed to be J?”
J- “You know, that dude that holds up the heavens? Um Atlan?”
Me- “Atlas?”
J- “Ya, him.”

Wow.  Thank you, Rick Riordan!

*If you don’t know about Rick Riordan books you should check them out.  We’ve read almost all of his books out loud together, and E and I have read ALL his books.  Anxiously waiting on his next one!

On Monster Tea Parties

So, I was a really good/bad mom today
(on this second snow day of the week)…
For breakfast the kids had s’mores.

For lunch they had a tea party.
Not just any old tea party, mind you.  A “Super Zombie-Monster Tea Party.”
Or that is what I was told.

Finger sandwiches, hibiscus tea/blood punch, and cheese were on the menu.
Bit of the conversation I overheard:
“Why weren’t you at the tea party last week, J/Mr. Skeleton?”
In a scary voice “My rib was missing.”
“Oh, we thought it was because you didn’t have the guts!”
“Why, is this O+ blood?  It is delicious?”

I’m so blessed to have kids that have imaginations.  Makes my heart happy (even if I do have to watch my neck!)

Tonight we took a walk in the sub-zero temps (what was I thinking?) and watched what today’s sun had done to the local snowmen.

Melty, Our Friendly Neighborhood Snowman

Ours was gone.  Maybe he heard about the scary tea party.

In Stitches

I have been a parent for 13 years.
So far we’ve had 3 broken bones, several bad ow-ies, but no stitches (amongst my three kids.)
I can’t claim that anymore….

Jac’s “after” pic

Youngest kiddo had a run-in at school with a door frame…

Three stitches total!

He didn’t cry or flinch during the whole ordeal.  What a tough cookie.  He said that now he looks like Frankenstein in time for Halloween.

Writer’s Workshop: Why I love my job…

Why I love my job:

  1. I can take a nap and not get fired!
  2. I can take lunch anytime I want to (and not get fired.)
  3. I am my own boss (I guess)
  4. I don’t have to listen to office gossip (well, maybe “He stole my candy bar!” or “The dog ate my Legos” but not sure if that counts…)
  5. I don’t get in any office dramas other than “Who left the toilet seat up!” and “Where are my socks!”
  6. I work with only those I love.
  7. Pets are accepted (welcomed.)
  8. I don’t have to wear panty-hose or heels.
  9. I don’t have to wear dressy clothes.
  10. I love the unexpected and I sure get a lot of that.  I never know what is going to happen today!
Seriously? Would you look this calm?  And in panty-hose and heels too…
